HP Quietly Starts Shipping Industry's First Wi-Fi Mobile Mouse
For whatever reason, Hewlett Packard decided not to make a big deal out of the fact that its 'Wi-Fi Mobile Mouse' is now available for purchase. We'll go ahead and do it for them, because this is one rodent deserving of a little fanfare.
The reason we're intrigued with the Wi-Fi Mobile Mouse is because even though wireless mice have been done before, they've never been done like this. Unlike other wireless rodents that communicate with your PC using either Bluetooth or a USB dongle, HP's creation uses your computer's built-in Wi-Fi receiver. Genius! Notebook users who aren't real keen on using a trackpad stand to gain the most from something like this, as the lack of a USB dongle means you don't have to give up one of those precious USB ports that are in short order on most laptops and netbooks.
Other than how it hooks up, the Wi-Fi Mobile Mouse is a pretty standard peripheral with respectable specs. You can use it on most surfaces and adjust the laser sensitivity from 1200 DPI (default) to 1600 DPI (maximum). There are five programmable buttons, 4-way tilt scroll wheel, rubber sides for improved grip, a symmetric body to suit both left and right-handed users, and up to nine months of battery life.
