HP Chromebook 11 Back With Updated Charger, May Be Available Soon

Well, that was fast. Days after Google and HP officially recalled the HP Chromebook 11 charger over concerns about overheating and fire safety (and just over a month since the issue was first acknowledged), it appears that an updated charger is already shipping.

Google sent a new charger to 9-to-5 Google, and it follows that we’ll likely see it available on the Google Play Store and the chromebook website soon. Of course, if you were one of the 145,000 or so unlucky folks with a potentially bum charger, you can get a new one for free from Google.

Fortunately the HP Chromebook 11 can be charged by essentially any micro-USB charger, so users weren’t completely out of luck, but the fire-breathing charger was a most unfortunate problem. Still, the updated charger (made by LITEON) offers 5.25V of juice at 3.0A, which 9-to-5 Google notes is more power than a normal smartphone or tablet charger.
