Google's Chrome to Exit Beta?
According to TechCrunch, VP Marissa Mayer gave them the news at Le Web 08. The reason for taking the browser out of beta makes sense: many OEMs want to bundle the browser with their PCs, but are unwilling to do so with a beta product, although Mayer did not specify an exact date.
Still, to "artificially" call what is a relatively buggy product a 1.0 version in order to make some deals seems questionable judgment, and some would say ethically questionable. It's still plenty buggy and can't even be used with Hotmail without adding a user-agent string to the shortcut used to launch it.
In general it's going to be a great browser, particularly when they get extensions that mirror, as Google has said it wants to do, many of those already in Firefox. For now, we wouldn't consider changing from Firefox to Chrome.
Despite the word about the upcoming release of a Windows version, there's still no word on when a version of Google Chrome will be available for Mac or Linux.

While Google's Chrome may still be in beta I use it as a backup for Internet Explorer 7. I have experienced trouble with Adobe's Flash Player updates freezing IE7, and that just plain sucks. Meanwhile, Chrome just accepts the updates and chugs on...and I like it a lot! |

I use it as a backup to Firefox sometime, it's very fast compared to other browsers. |

What it has not been out for years. I don't trust it. lol. I really like chrome. When it gets add ons it will be a real option for me. I am just to addicted to my add ons. Got to have my mouse gestures. |

The latest dev build works fine for hotmail, yahoo, outlook web access and groupwise web mail FWIW. I haven't had a single crash since upgrading to the latest dev build of Chrome. Still can't use it at work but at least it works with most of the stuff i need it to work with. and well downloads are lightning fast with it I think it pre-caches stuff or something because when i hoover my mouse over a link my router goes crazy. |

Chrome sucks. I would rather use IE than have to mess with chrome. FF and opera are way better than chrome is. Just cause it has googles name on it dont mean that it isnt a POS. |

The cool kids only use beta. Actual release-ready software is only for the meek and uncool geeks. |
