Gearbox Announces "Ultimate Vault Hunter" DLC Pack For Borderlands 2

With the release of Tiny Tina's Assault on Dragon Keep, we were led to believe that Borderlands 2 would be seeing no more DLC. As it turns out, we're just not going to be seeing more DLC that introduces vast new worlds.

At PAX Australia, Gearbox CEO Randy Pitchford, who just last month showed us around the Gearbox offices and his humble abode, announced that the biggest piece of upcoming DLC is called Ultimate Vault Hunter Upgrade Pack 2, which increases the level cap by 11, adds a "Digistruct Peak Challenge", and allow gamers to "over level" the game, in order to continue getting a challenge that "Ultimate" would imply.

That "over level" feature is one I'm curious about, because the Borderlands series as a whole has never done very well with level scaling. Regardless of how you play the game, you're always likely to be fighting enemies of 5 levels of less, later on in the game. I'm currently working my way through Tiny Tina's, and I'm a level 44 character battling level 35 and 36 enemies. Suffice to say, my challenge at the moment is not great (but the DLC itself is awesome).

Like the original, Ultimate Vault Hunter Upgrade Pack 2 will cost $5. Unlike the original, it's not going to be included in the Season Pass.

Past this DLC, things don't stop there. Also in the works is a free update that will allow players to upgrade their ammo counts, inventory slot counts and bank counts - all via Eridium in-game currency. Later, a pack called T.K. Baha's Bloody Harvest will give us a couple of throwbacks to The Zombie Island of Dr. Ned DLC from the original game, which concludes with a boss battle against Jacques O'Lantern.

I'm sure many Borderlands 2 fans are with me in saying "yes!" to this news. It's always disappointing when a great game has its last piece of content rolled-out, but Gearbox looks to be working hard to keep the fun going for a little while longer.
