The more interconnected online and offline applications become, the more crucial internet security becomes. Currently Firefox benefits from the same type of passive virus protection that Apple enjoys. I believe it was FlyinBrian that put it best in another thread, "security by obscurity". I wouldn't say Firefox is obscure exactly, it is however used by far less people than IE currently is. This is at least in part one of the reasons I think it is a safer browser. It simply isn't as prime a target as IE for virus' and the like. Security aside one of the best things about Firefox are the wealth of extensions available. This is a stroke of pure genius on Mozilla's part, considering most of them are open-source created at no cost to Mozilla. |
