Facebook Redesign to be Redesigned

Facebook has begun to respond to the criticism over the recent redesign of its home page. While it's unlikely they will make wholescale revisions (like returning to the prior version), they outlined some tweaks they are going to make in response to feedback.
  • Live updating: Automatic updating of the stream (yes, that Twitter-like stream that's been at the heart of many criticisms). No more refreshing (unless you really want to).
  • Photo tags: Photos tagged of your friends will be added to your stream.
  • More choices for applications: Tools to control and reduce application content that your friends share into your stream.'
  • More frequent highlights updating: This will more closely mirror the content that the earlier News Feed provided as well as update more frequently.
  • Moving requests to the top of the right column: Friend requests and event invites will be more prominent.
  • Easier way to create a Friends List filter: You will be able to create a new list of friends with which to filter the stream.
The changes to the home page elicited quite a bit of discord among users.  While more than one Group was created to protest the change, one group, Petition Against the "New Facebook" has more than 1.7 million members.

Still Facebook, while definitely not going back, seems to have noticed (how could they not!).  Facebook concluded their blog post with the following:
Your feedback means a lot, and we sort through everything we receive. The best way to give us direct feedback—to ensure that we can consolidate it—is through the feedback link on the home page tour. In the meantime, thanks for your support.

I am all about facebook being semi-democratic and stuff but really now, they need to come up with an idea and stick with it. I am just starting to get used to this new layout and now its going to change again?? W.e I guess as the facebook fiends have spoken! ha

I'm still getting used to the new one too. To be honest I think this new one looks worse than the old one.

They're just trying to emulate twitter more and more, and that's not what the average user wants.

I have to say I like the new design. I think that people will get used to it and like it as well.

What I really want is it to go back to how it was 3 years ago, but they can keep the chat function that is nice...
