Eurocom's 17.3" X7200 Panther 2.0 Gaming Notebook Has HDMI 1.4 Input

Eurocom's 17.3" X7200 Panther 2.0 Gaming Notebook Has HDMI 1.4 Input

Eurocom is a name synonymous with high-end, cutting-edge machines. It's also a company that rarely makes anything that's truly "portable." Without a doubt, the company's calling card is their high-end gaming notebooks, and the machines they make are about as close as you can get to having desktop power within a notebook.

The new X7200 Panther 2.0 is no different. It's a powerful new laptop that just so happens to be the world's first notebook with an HDMI 1.4 input port. HDMI 1.4 is the latest version of the protocol, which fully supports 3D. The Panther 2.0 can be customized in pretty much every way imaginable, but the company suggests using a 6-core Intel Core i7-980X Extreme Edition or a Xeon 5600 Series processor to really feel the speed.

Customers can choose from a variety of NVIDIA GPUs (GTX 480M, GTX 470M or GTX 460M single or dual/SLI operation and Quadro FX series card), so the only limits on how high your frame rates will climb is your budget. It also supports up to 3.25TB of storage across four physical hard drives (available in RAID 0/1/5/10) and up to 24GB of DDR3-1600 memory.

The HDMI 1.4 output and input means that you could actually plug a Blu-ray player or gaming console into the notebook and use it's internal LCD for playback. Talk about flexibility. And since it has a massive 17.3" panel, you won't be lacking for screen real estate. Pricing will vary wildly depending on your configuration, but you should be able to start customizing your own starting immediately.

2)  HDMI 1.4 Specifications
A major innovation with the Panther 2.0 is the introduction of an HDMI 1.4 input port, making the Panther 2.0 the first to have this feature.
Having HDMI 1.4 in and out ports increases the functionality of the Panther 2.0 exponentially.  Now it can be used for many Video and Audio production, editing, recording and viewing purposes.  HDMI has always been a great interface for the high speed transfer and streaming of video.

HDMI 1.4 has added a few new features:
- Transfers video in 3D.  HDMI 1.4 supports several stereoscopic 3D formats including field alternative (interlaced), frame packing (a full resolution top-bottom format), line alternative full, side-by-side half, side-by-side full, 2D + depth, and 2D + depth + graphics + graphics depth.
- HDMI 1.4 incorporates a dedicated Ethernet Channel enabling high speed, bi-directional networking at up to 100 Mb/sec.  This consolidates video, audio and data in a single cable.
- HDMI 1.4 has added an Audio Return Channel which enables a device to send audio data upstream to an A/V receiver, thus eliminating the need for an S/PDIF audio connection.  LipSync functionality ensures the audio stays in sync with the video.
- Transfers video in 4k x 2k Resolution (4096x2160p24).  This adds support for extremely high video resolutions, 4000 lines wide by 2000 lines high.  Putting your home theatre system on par with cinema projectors.
- HDMI 1.4 introduces a new micro connector for small portable devices, which allows cell phones, cameras and other small devices the ability to transfer video just like any other video device.

To me, desktop performance should be found on a desktop, unless you have money to burn and it's burning you right now!

Yeah, I also looked into their website all the configurations that this model comes in. I'll have to admit, I'm impressed. running four SSD's in raid 0 on a laptop, thats pretty insane. and running as server CPU on your lap as well. The only thing I would worry about would be how hot it would get on your lap.

I just upgraded the Realtek Wireless that came in my LG X140 netbook with the Intel Ultimate N 6300.

The card is simple to swap but adding the 3rd antena was the hard part. The antenas are on both sides of the LCD.The 3rd was placed on top.

The local LG service center charged me about $42(current exchange rate) for the parts and labor.

The difference is quite a bit.

I now get excellent connecting throughout my home.where it was spotty with the Realtek.
