EA “Streamlines” By Laying Off More Workers

Electronic Arts is not in a good way these days. After the recent disastrous launch of SimCity, which led to the ignominious resignation of CEO John Riccitiello, the company was voted as the Worst Company in America.

Now the company has confirmed a round of layoffs, which follow layoffs in Montreal and L.A. this February. Polygon believes this round will be focused on EA’s Montreal studio; EA did not release numbers on how many people would be let go.

EA Montreal

EA says that it’s streamlining operations and that it’s attempting to retrain or relocate as many employees as possible. As always, we wish the best for the recently unemployed. And without making light of their situation, perhaps parting ways with the world’s worst company isn’t ultimately a bad thing.

So does mean they found the employee that wrote that letter to EA about fixing their stuff? So this is how they "lay" him off without saying they are doing it? I doubt it but it would be funny as hell. Well maybe this is a step to a better EA although I doubt it and it sucks they are doing layoffs to people.

Sounds like another good reason for them winning the worst company award 2 years in a row.

I hate to hear about anybody losing their jobs, but a part of me enjoys hearing bad things happen to EA. I hope those talented people find better employers.

This sucks... the already flooded market for 3D artists is going to get a bit more flooded. Getting harder and harder to find good work.

Yeah, we can only hope a semi-big or major dev is looking to hire here soon to something or to start another branch. If only people would just boycott EA even though it will never happen.

This really sucks for all the people that lost their jobs

Hope those that are laid off land on their feet quickly.

This sucks for people who lost their jobs. Its corporate's responsibility to ensure job security. If the company has to lay off workers, it means that there's something wrong with the company itself. I've bought some of the games from EA for PC, and few of them were just unplayable. Sometimes, its almost impossible to play games that were ported from consoles without buying a controller.

What was it I said in the other thread, four days before this happened? The one about them being the worst company to work for? Oh, yeah: "If EA could go for an entire year without laying off developers (particularly those that just finished a new game), I might have more respect for them."

Ain't that about right. I wonder if the head honchos sit in their conference rooms just grinning about making money and laying people off. Has anyone figured out at EA that developers of games typically are smart enough to make more than one game and you can make money off that too!
