EA Kills Support And Online Services For Long List Of Games, Including Crysis, Battlefield And Star Wars Titles

No, your PC can't run Crysis online, not after June 30, 2014, anyway. It doesn't matter how big and burly your setup is, playing Crysis online will no longer be an option after next month, as it's one of about a trillion and a half titles (small exaggeration) getting booted offline this summer and beyond. The list of games starts with Lord of Ultima, the only title scheduled to be shut down today.

On October 1, 2014, Electronic Arts will kick World Series of YAHTZEE (free for iOS) offline. Sandwiched in between those two titles are a whole bunch of popular games, all scheduled to go dark on June 30, EA announced in a blog post today.

"The decisions to retire older EA games are never easy. The development teams and operational staff pour their hearts into these games almost as much as the customers playing them and it is hard to see one retired. But as games get replaced with newer titles, the number of players still enjoying the older games dwindles to a level -- typically fewer than 1 percent of all peak online players across all EA titles -- where it’s no longer feasible to continue the behind-the-scenes work involved with keeping these games up and running," EA explains. "We would rather our hard-working engineering and IT staff focus on keeping a positive experience for the other 99 percent of customers playing our more popular games. We hope you have gotten many hours of enjoyment out of the games and we appreciate your ongoing patronage."

It's a bum rap for the supposed 1 percenters playing any of the more than 50 titles scheduled to have their servers shut down next month. Some of the more notable titles include Battlefield 2 and 2142, Command & Conquer 3: Tiberium Wars, Crysis, Crysis 2, Crysis Wars, Never Winter Nights 2, and Star Wars Battlefront (1 and 2).

They should patch and release private server apps or the ability to multiplay without a master login server (battlefield we're looking st you)...

I agree with Cameron. The best game companies are the ones who release server code and a minor update to allow the game to connect to new personal servers.

I didn't know battlefield 2 was still live. That's crazy.

''If'' EA is doing this to focus more on the new stuff I see nothing wrong :) but if not leave things the way they are please xD

I still like some of the older games. It's not a big deal, look at all the games out there!
