Dell Streak to Hit AT&T on Friday

It's like a 'tweener in the NBA. The Dell Streak is considered by many to be too big for a phone, and too small for a tablet. Despite that, it's now confirmed for AT&T, starting Friday in stores, and with pre-orders on Thursday.

The Dell Streak is a 5" Android device, shipping with Android 1.6 (ugh), though Dell says it will be upgradeable to Android 2.2 (Froyo) later. It has a WVGA (800x480) Gorilla Glass screen, a 1GHz Snapdragon CPU, 2GB of internal storage, 512MB of ROM and 512MB of RAM. It has a VGA front-facing camera and a 5 MP autofocus rear camera with dual LED flash.

Pricing is $299 with a two-year AT&T contract, and $549 contract-free. It's not, however, a though this week needs to be any busier Android-wise. The Droid 2 is already set for retail launch on Aug. 12th, tne rumors are flying about the Epic 4G on Sprint launching this week as well.

Here's a video of the Dell Streak in action. The press release follows the video.

Priced like a netbook. I dont see this being an Apple killer?

To big for your pocket, to small for its own case? I am sure they will be having to give these away with contracts by christmas time!

$299 for that? That 512MB of ROM will come back to bite it in the rear. Even with 2.2 installed, a large chunk of apps have to be installed to ROM. Not to mention that 2.0+ with the base Google apps installed takes up about 600MB.

I agree with both of you this device to me seems lacking. The only thing that will help it sell if it does is because it is a different size. The normal consumer will see it and therefore add some importance to that size difference. Of course after it is public, and the seeming limitations are discovered, it will most likely change fast. This will probably be the next Palm Pre.......................

It would have been nice to see that. So I thought to choose a Dell iPhone Streak 4, but may wait to see how acting Streak for Android 2.2. Reviews European Streak was not as much perhaps because of the old version of the OS.
