For a limited time (which will hopefully become more permanent soon), Corsair is offering their 32GB Nova SSD for just $69.99 after mail-in rebate. The drive has read speeds up to 195 MB/s and write speeds up to 70 MB/, with 64MB of built-in cache. Less than $100 for a new SSD? If you have no need for loads of internal storage, or have space for two drives within your notebook, this sounds like a deal you can't afford to pass up.

Rather than developments coming in leaps and bounds, it seems that they've been propelled forwards a few nanometers by a brain fart. 32 gigs just doesn't count anymore. |

So I worked yesterday all day. Being fathers day I made $180. All extra money since I am usually off on Sundays. So I was looking around at getting something fun with it. Then I saw this and was like hmm. 2 in raid as a boot drive. Then I saw this

Being the proud owner of a 32 GB SSD as my boot drive, I have to disagree with some of the sentiments. It does cut it, whatever "it" is, and it's sufficient to put your OS, browser, and World of Warcraft onto, at the very least. It does take a little caution to use, so it's not for the dull or lazy; but when you install something that doesn't need to go onto the SSD, you change the drive letter during installation. Sometimes, you need to do a "custom" install to get this option. Very rarely, installers-- usually GNU programs-- assume you always want to install onto your C drive, which causes problems. Then again, the average person's need for badly designed interfaces and forever-in-beta programs is very small indeed, so this isn't really that much of a worry. Go ahead, kids-- overcome your fear of SSDs. The price is so nice I may get a second one!
UPDATE: After checking the prices, maybe we should call it a $75 SSD. Amazon has it for just under $95 before rebate (but with free shipping). Hurry if you want it: The rebate expires June 30. |
