A friend of mine uses clearwire. It is either great or complete crap depending on the area. I hope this deal cleans some of that up. |

At least in the US you have actual competition between Internet and Telecommunications providers, Here in NZ Telecom is the main giant which basically monopolises the industry, and they're not very good. Check out this: http://www.nzherald.co.nz/technology/news/article.cfm?c_id=5&objectid=10545668 My Internet was down overnight |
Trust me we have it no better. Comcast is the big dog around here. Internet goes out sometimes as well, slow down torrents, block Voip. Some areas you can only get dial up. My Mom just got DSL in her area last year. I know at least one of are forums members had dial up as well.

Bob makes a valid and very frustrating point. Here in Florida and in my specific town, I needed cable modem access for business; HOWEVER due to the fact that my office is one quarter of a block from the terminus of Comcasts coverage, I would have to absorb the expense of running cable, labor and other costs and fees, i.e. city license amendment (for Comcast) and approvals from both our city and county government (somewhere around $11,000 give or take....mostly take), so I have Fastaccess (really?) DSL. Marvelous. |
