Claimed Leaked Apple A7 Quad-Core Processor Images For iPhone 5S Emerge

Today marks the start of another week, which inevitably means another Apple rumor. The latest is that the upcoming iPhone 5S -- a device that hasn't yet been confirmed but is likely in the works -- will sport a custom Apple A7 quad-core processor and 2GB of RAM. There's even some leaked photos that claim to show the new hardware.

According to iOSDoc, the photos it received come from a "very reliable source," one that has confirmed previous rumors to the site in the past. Take from that what you will, but here's the supposed money shot:

We cleaned it up a bit, but even so, it's difficult to tell if it's a legit photo or a fake. Assuming it's real, you can expect the iPhone 5S to retain the same shape and size as the iPhone 5, as the motherboard is largely unchanged, save for the upgraded processor. This falls in line with previous rumors we've heard.

The quad-core A7 part is said to come clocked at 1.2GHz. For the sake of comparison, the iPhone 5 sports a dual-core A6 chip clocked at 1.3GHz. The 5S model will also come with PowerVR's quad-core SGX554MP4 graphics processor, same as found in the 4th generation iPad.

Along with the hardware, Apple is expected to debut iOS 7 with an improved Siri that's able to "do a lot of new cool stuff."

Aren't the SoCs normally nameless on prototypes? I don't remember seeing one so clearly stating "Ax" before. I could be having a brain fart.

Regardless, it's cool to see an A7 (probably) coming to the 5S. I wouldn't have expected it until the iPhone 6.

Regardless, it's cool to see an A7 (probably) coming to the 5S. I wouldn't have expected it until the iPhone 6.

It could also be Photoshopped.

I actually expected this in the iPhone5. I'm sure it will be power effecient for a quad core. I hope there is more to the 5s than just this and ios7.
