Chromecast Dongle Turns 1 Year Old, Bragadocious Google Boasts 400 Million 'Casts'

Has it been a year already? Time flies when you're streaming fun, and apparently Google's low cost Chromecast dongle is celebrating its first birthday. As parents are apt to do about their little ones, Google used the occasion to brag about its streaming stick by pointing out that people have hit the cast button more than 400 million times. Impressive!

Chromecast has grown up considerably since we reviewed it last year. At the time, we said it was worth every penny, and all Google has done since then is add more features and functionality without jacking up the price -- it's still $35 (MSRP).

"We’ve added hundreds of your favorite apps, including WatchESPN, Pandora, Hulu Plus, HBO GO and PBS Kids; announced new features like mirroring your Android device to the TV and expanded to 30,000 stores across 20 countries," Google said in a blog post.

To celebrate Chromecast's first birthday, Google Play Music is offering All Access subscriptions free for 90 days to anyone who owns a Chromecast (and isn't already an All Access subscribers). The promotion is valid for U.S. residents only and is valid from June 24, 2014 through September 30, 2014.
