Chillin' Out With The HH Community Sweepstakes!

Chillin' Out With The HH Community Sweepstakes!

It's that time again folks! In conjunction with our friends at OCZ, Intel, WD, Gigabyte, and Xigmatek, we have assembled another <HOT> rig to give away this month! We're announcing a new sweepstakes where you could win a full Intel Core i7-870-based system, complete with a Radeon HD 6870 graphics card, some super-fast DDR3 RAM, an OCZ SSD, and a speedy Western Digital hard drive. With that kind of power at the heart of this rig, in a windowed case, this machine will definitely be a head turner, and it could be all yours!

As usual, we’ll be giving away this rig away to a randomly selected contributor to our on-line forum, news and reviews discussion systems. The complete break-down of components in the system includes:

Processor: Intel Core i7-870

Graphics: XFX Radeon HD 6870

Case: Xigmatek Utgard

PSU: PC Power and Cooling Silencer 760W

Memory: 4GB OCZ DDR3

Motherboard: Gigabyte P55

Hard Drive: WD Velociraptor 600GB

SSD: OCZ Vertex 2 120GB

Optical Drive: SATA DVD-R / RW

Input: Thermaltake Challenger Pro

To be entered into the sweepstakes, you’ve got to be a registered, active member of our forum and a resident of the United States or Canada (apologies to the rest of the world). If you’re not already a member, you can sign up quickly and easily (and for free), right here.

From this point forward, we’ll be monitoring discussions on the site and will be selecting a winner based on community involvement and contribution. To increase your chances of being a winner, sign up for our HotHardware RSS News Alerts as well, and we'll toss your name into the mix for double credit! In addition, we’re going to be weighting entries based on the quality of contribution, using our comment system’s integrated voting button (those 'Thumbs Up' and 'Thumbs Down' buttons you see in the comments on the news page).  So if the community likes your stuff, so will the contest gods!

The sweepstakes will run through February 28, 2011 and we will announce the winner shortly thereafter.

This is a great opportunity for to you to win a custom, powerful new system. Now go make some new friends in the HotHardware community and get in the running! Good Luck!

if the winner selection is based off content generation, and participation, its a contest. It cant legally be called a sweepstakes if anything is awarded in any manner other than completely random and all entries are equal. At least in california.

Dude, I live in California, and I say it's legal! I wouldn't care if they called it a sHHweepstakes!!!

Thanks superdave, you have just reversed legislation intended to reduce fraud and organized crime. But you are forgiven, since none of that exists on krypton.

Smile There's not a Vas Deferens between what you're doing and picking the fly-Sh*t out of the pepper. Smile

Do you really care what they call the method by which somebody will end up with a nice computer system for free?

Really?

No.....however, I see no reason to not call it by a term that most accurately describes what it is. I don't think 'contest' quite says it either, as forum contribution is such an ambiguous thing to judge. I think 'give away' is the best description of what HH are doing here. So..in agreement with free jet here:

The HH-dot-Commune Winter Chillax-a-thon Give Away - would be the most apt title

mmm. you know, I actually do care. It's the lawyer in me, but when it comes to shifty business, the mirk is always in the method. I know this is the internet, and I expect to be told to "chillax dude" . But I like the law. Not its restrictive nature, but knowing where the line is drawn. Either to fight or follow, I like knowing what that line is. And there is such discomfort in not at least pointing out where a line is missing. And it is not just for my sake. For instance: not having a clearly defined set of rules for promotions such as this makes it more difficult for participants to even know if they are eligible. And what kind of tax repercussions they might incur. The net may still be the wild west, but its effects on meatworld are still real.

I'm with Analog on this. It makes a difference in how you approach it. Is it limited to your contributions this month or is it your ongoing contributions? If you won once can you win again? Does it affect chances at all? I'm not saying that it should be one way or another, just that it should be clarified.

I think its awesome that HH does these promotions, and would hope this criticism is taken as constructive rather than bitchin' about what is essentially a gift to their community.

Gents, please... really.  A free full custom gaming rig giveaway and you're questioning it?  The rules are simple here for a reason. Ongoing contribution to the site not only helps you in this contest but if you don't win the current one, there is always a member contribution component to the next one.  We set them up that way for a reason.  We want you to make this YOUR place.

Will there be another build log this time? We enjoyed the last one, but I realize that sometimes things can get a little hectic with an almost new baby in the house.
