CES Unveiled: LG's Insane 84" 4K TV, ASUS MX279H LCD, Mad Catz S.T.R.I.K.E. 7 and More

CES doesn’t officially start until January 8, but many of the pre-show festivities have begun. We just spent some time at the CES Unveiled event taking place at the Mandalay Bay resort and have some cool stuff show you. Amidst the myriad of funky gadgets, mobile accessories, and random doo-dads, there were a few PC-centric items to see, along with some serious geek porn.

No, I didn't lick it...

CES Unveiled is basically a huge ballroom crammed full of tables with hundreds of companies showing off some of their wares before the actual CES show floor opens at the Las Vegas Convention Center. Along with all of the gadgetry, the press is enticed to attend by the promise of good food and plenty of booze. We didn’t partake in any libations yet (we have a big NVIDIA event attend in a couple of hours), but thought this Martini-Chilling ice sculpture was pretty cool—no pun intended.

It's going to be time to upgrade TV's soon

Before we get to the PC stuff, we have to show you this awesome LG 84-in Ultra HD 3D TV. Aside from just being huge and gorgeous, this LG 84LM9600 TV sports an Ultra HD 4K-class resolution of 3840x2160 with a 240Hz refresh rate. The 84LM9600 also has LED backlighting with local dimming for excellent contrast and deep blacks, and full 3D support. It’s also a “smart” TV with built in WiFi and apps and is outfitted with a 3-way, 10 speaker audio system. No word on pricing just yet, but expect this baby to cost a fortune when it’s released.

The ASUS MX279H

ASUS didn’t have an official presence at CES Unveiled, but we spied one of their products tucked away behind some thick glass in the “Best of CES” display. What you see here is the ASUS MX279H. The MX279H is a 27” LCD monitor with a full HD 1920x1080 resolution and a high-quality IPS LED-backlit display with 178° wide-viewing angles. The screen has a frameless design, is ultra-thin, and it also features SonicMaster Technology, which was co-developed with Bang & Olufsen ICEpower, for premium audio from the monitor’s built in speakers. We hope to have some hands-on time with the MX279H tomorrow.

Mad Catz S.T.R.I.K.E. 7 Gaming Keyboard

Next up we have the Mad Catz S.T.R.I.K.E. 7 Professional Gaming Keyboard. The S.T.R.I.K.E. 7 isn’t a mechanical ‘board, so it loses a few points from me right out of the game, but its other features are pretty enticing. The S.T.R.I.K.E. 7 is fully modular and can be re-arranged in a number of different configurations. It also sports a touch-screen accessory for which can be used to display PC health information, run apps, or launch macros with a quick touch and it's got multi-colored backlighting as well. The picture doesn’t do the thing justice, so here’s a video Mad Catz posted of the S.T.R.I.K.E. 7 for more info:

We have a handful of team members at CES this year, so stay tuned to HH for more plenty more news and announcements in the days (and hours) ahead. We’re hearing NVIDIA is looking to impress tonight at their press conference and plan to bring you that scoop as soon as humanly possible.

Dave_HH:

What's with the hostility there, MM?

I think he's upset because it has no practical improvements.  It's just more aesthetically pleasing.

Also, on the LG 4k TV, in the giveaway link I posted in the contest thread, they have the retail value of the tv listed at $17,000.  However, most of the websites I've looked at had it for $19,000, with list at $25,000.
