Bethesda’s Wolfenstein: The New Order Brings Back Classic Evil For Gamers

Where does the time go? I can remember playing Wolfenstein 3D as if it weren't all that long ago, though it's actually been a long 22 years since it was released. Fast forward to today and we've seen a handful of followup titles, though the forthcoming Wolfenstein: The New Order will be the first not to bear the Id Software badge.

You'll play as William "B.J." Blazkowicz, an American war hero, and it's your job to launch a counter-offensive against the Nazis who, in this alternate version of history, won World War II. The war is over and the Nazi regime is in charge, ruling the world with an iron fist. Here's a look at you'll be up against:

Yes, you just got peppered with bullets and stepped on by a Nazi robot, though you'll also encounter hulking Super Soldiers and other forces in this single-player, first-person shooter. You'll have an unlimited weapon inventory and, in some cases, be able to wield dual weapons, such as two shotguns. There's an element of stealth, though lots of shooting with partially destructible environments.

Wofenstein: The New Order

The title is currently under development by MachineGames, and while it won't bear the Id Software label, the developers are using Id Software's id Tech 5 game engine. It's scheduled to launch on May 20, 2014, though you can place your pre-order today through a variety of retailers. If you do pre-order a copy, you'll receive a key for the upcoming Doom beta.

Wolfenstein: The New Order
will launch to Xbox One, Xbox 360, PlayStation 4, PlayStation 3, and Windows PCs.
