Bethesda Teases 'The Elder Scrolls Online' MMO with Short Trailer

Bethesda Softworks last Thursday finally and officially announced The Elder Scrolls Online, an "epic MMO" of sorts that will become "the first Elder Scrolls game to allow players to explorer the series' universe with others." Following the announcement, Bethesda has now released its first teaser trailer, a 1-minute YouTube clip with a strong emphasis on 'teaser.'

There's not a whole lot of reveal going on, just a nifty soundtrack and some gnarly narration to get you pumped about the upcoming game. According to Game Informer, which looks to have had an exclusive on announcing the MMO, Zenimax Online Studios is in charge of producing the title that will take place before the events of Skyrim. Check out the video below:

"It will be extremely rewarding finally to unveil what we have been developing the last several years," said game director Matt Firor. "The entire team is committed to creating the best MMO ever made – and one that is worthy of The Elder Scrolls franchise."

We'll find out if that's the case sometime in 2013, which is when The Elder Scrolls Online is currently scheduled to ship (for PC and Mac).

This could be terrible and awesome, as its signals the start of an entirely new interactive Elder Scrolls experience, or it simply signifies the death of its greatness.

Taking the Elder Scrolls Saga into the MMO setting and away from the first person rpg/adventure is going to be incredibly hard to do while retaining what has made the game so popular, but if it's pulled off right I wouldn't be surprised to see this potentially knock World of Warcraft off its throne

I have seen a lot of fail mmos and even though I like elder scrolls I think its going to also fail. For example I love fallout but their mmo failed big time.

I hope this is free to play, otherwise I'll be too busy playing Guild Wars 2.

I was some screenshots, they look an awful lot like WoW, which isn't a very good thing. One of the main draws of the ES games is having a big huge world I can explore on my own. Mass Effect 3 taught me that multiplayer shoehorned into SP franchises can be a surprisingly good thing, but we don't need another fantasy MMO.

It would be nice if it is free to play. Although I'm already playing ALOT of MMO. MMO seem to have the market on lock right now.

I have no doubt that they can produce one heck of an MMO from the Elder Scrolls series. However I don't think they can match the experience of single player Elder Scrolls games simply because they will fine the ruleset is too complex. I really hope they are not setting themselves up for failure with this one.
