BenQ Launches Joybook U102 Netbook

We're still anxiously awaiting that Android-based netbook from BenQ, but until then, we've got yet another netbook in the company's expanding Joybook line. Sporting a classic, all-black case, the Joybook Lite U102 boasts a larger-than-usual trackpad that we're certainly falling for, an undisclosed Intel Atom processor, a 10.1" UltraVivid WSVGA display (LED-backlit), a 250GB hard drive and a "petite" AC adapter.

The machine weighs in at around 1kg (or 2.2 pounds), so it's certainly one of the lightest ways to get Windows XP in your suitcase. BenQ also includes a pair of stereo speakers, a webcam, integrated microphone, Wi-Fi and optional 3.5G HSUPA mobile broadband. There's even a dedicated hotkey to swap between different kinds of wireless connectivity options, and the 90% full-size keyboard should be fine for on-the-go typists.

For those who won't be spending a lot of time beside an AC outlet, the 6-cell battery provides nearly six hours of claimed life, while the stock 3-cell battery will obviously last around half as long. Finally, there are three USB 2.0 sockets and a 4-in-1 multi-format card reader. Further details on GPU and such are missing, but it should start shipping soon in Taiwan, China and Thailand. As for North America? Wait and see is about our only option.
