Asus Announces Transformer Book Duet TD300 Convertible and VivoTab Note 8 Tablet

As always, we're finding ASUS to be quite the busy body at the Consumer Electronics Show (CES) in Las Vegas. That's to be expected when you consider that Asus has a robust product line that covers everything from smartphones to full-fledged laptops and everything in between. In terms of mobile devices, a couple of interesting products ASUS is showcasing include the Transformer Book Duet TD300 and VivoTab Note 8.

Starting with the former, the Transformer Book Duet TD300 is being billed as the world's first quad-mode, dual-OS laptop and tablet convertible that allows users to switch between Windows 8.1 and Android 4.2.2 in either mode. Up until now, dual-booting convertibles usually booted into Windows in laptop mode and Android in tablet mode, but the Transformer Book Duet TD300 gives you the option of booting into either one regardless of form factor.

The dual-booting wonder device sports a 13.3-inch Full HD 1080p IPS multi-touch display. Configurations come with up to an Intel Core i7 processor, 4GB of DDR3L 1600 RAM, up to 128GB SSD in tablet mode, up to a 1TB hard drive when docked, 802.11ac Wi-Fi, Bluetooth 4.0 + EDR, microSD card slot, headphone jack, and a 38WHr battery that's good for around 5 hours in Windows 8.1 and 6 hours in Android 4.2.2. In addition, the keyboard dock adds a single USB 3.0 port, two USB 2.0 ports, 10/100 LAN, HDMI 1.4 connectivity, audio combo jack, and a DC jack.

Look for the Transformer Book Duet TD300 to ship in late Q2 starting at $599 for a Core i3 configuration with an HD display, and starting at $699 for a Full HD display.

VivoTab Note 8

If you'd prefer a straight up tablet, ASUS also announced the VivoTab Note 8, a Windows 8.1 slate with professional Wacom digitizer stylus. It's intended for professionals and students and comes bundled with Microsoft Office Home and Student (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, and OneNote).

The VivoTab Note 8 boasts an 8-inch HD (1280x800) IPS display powered by an Intel Atom Z3740 processor and 2GB of LPDDR3 memory. It also has up to 64GB of internal storage, a microSD card slot, micro USB port, 5MP rear-facing camera, HD front-facing camera, 802.11n Wi-Fi, Bluetooth 4.0+HS Miracast, 15.5Whr battery good for up to 8 hours of run time, and Windows 8.1.

ASUS says the VivoTab Note 8 will be available in late Q1 or early Q2 starting at $299 for 32GB and $349 for 64GB.
