Apple iWatch Reportedly Headed To Mass Production In July, Retail Availability In October

We reported earlier this month on a rumor that Apple's iWatch would be hitting the shelves this October, and today, we get further confirmation of that. According to Reuters, Taiwan-based Quanta Computer will begin the manufacturing process next month, which should supply the market with an ample amount of product in advance of the fall.

Up until this point, Quanta's name hasn't been involved in the iWatch rumormill, so that in itself is a major development - especially since it means that long-standing Apple partner Hon Hai, aka: Foxconn, will not be involved. Quanta's not new to the Apple realm, though, as it's produced both MacBooks and iPods for the company in the past. LG is said to be responsible for the device's display.

It's expected that the iWatch, or whatever it ends up being called, will come in a 2.5-inch form-factor, with a more rectangular display - plus, it'll have wireless charging capabilities.

It's a lofty goal, but Apple's apparently hoping to ship 50 million iWatch units in the first year. Given that, the reason the device has been taking forever to get here is because Apple wants to make sure that it becomes the de facto option once released.

As someone who hasn't been too interested in the wearables market, I still can't help but be intrigued by what Apple could pull off here.
