Apple Laptop Battery Patch

Information week is reporting that Apple has a patch out to fix performance issues with their Intel powered laptops:
"Problems associated with the batteries included them not being recognized by the computer or the battery not charging when the notebook is plugged into an AC outlet. Also, the batteries could exhibit low-charge capacity or runtime when the battery is in fact fully charged. The battery pack could also appear visibly deformed."
The phrase "visibly deformed" is just scary.  Having any part of a new laptop deform could cause issues with fit and finish, not to mention leakage, and nobody wants that.

The article goes on to mention some of the other recent problems with notebook batteries that have made the headlines, namely Acer's recall and the potentially dangerous batteries Lenovo bought from Sanyo Electric.  What do you think is the cause of these recent laptop battery issues?  Let us know.
