Algiz XRW Is A Rugged, Yet Stylish 10" Ultraportable

Generally, when you talk about rugged notebooks, you imagine a thick, clunky machine that looks like it has body armor strapped on it. In other words, "portable" and "rugged" rarely go together, as even rugged notebooks are real beasts to tote around. But Handheld Group, a Swedish based supplier of rugged computers, might have a winner with the Algiz XRW.

This is one of the first rugged portables that we have seen to boast a frame that isn't truly huge, and it's actually stylish on some levels, all which providing an intense level of protection from the elements. It's a full rugged ultraportable with a 10.1" widescreen (sunlight-readable LCD), a 2GHz Intel Atom CPU, 64GB SSD, 2GB of DDR2 memory and Windows 7 Ultimate.

It comes standard with Bluetooth, Wi-Fi, GPS, 2MP webcam and an optional embedded 3G module for staying connected in the field. The battery is good for 8 hours of use, and it weighs 1.5kg. Its keyboard and mouse-touchpad, illuminated by two led lights, are fully sealed, and it carries an IP65 rating against sand, dust and water. It passes MIL-STD-810F ruggedness testing, including drop tests from 1.2 meters, and can also handle extreme temperatures from -21 °C to 70 °C. In other words, you'll probably perish before this laptop will.

The Algiz XRW will be shown at trade shows worldwide in the coming months and orders can be placed immediately, and while the first shipments will go out in December, there's no word on pricing just yet.

Good to see that they understand the need for an indestructible portable!

But why cant they make it a tablet! Lets make what we will tell people what they want, instead of what they actually need!

Seems like the ideological Swedes are spending to much time in the Amsterdam coffee shops:P

Does this thing really need Win-7 ultimate?

That is the only plus for Ultimate is the language setup.

Since it is a Swedish company and probably made in China, It makes sense that you would have a OS that allows you to set up the operating language to wherever you are from. hopefully we are lucky enough to at least have them pay something for MS software? Then again they will probably sell these things to the hills of AfgStan, and they will end up getting their software and movies from the Russian Torrent sitesWhisper

To bad Ultimate doesnt support Vulcan and Klingon Geeked
