AT&T Now Taking Pre-Orders on Nokia Lumia 1520 with 6-inch 1080p Display

Here's a bit of good news for you Windows Phone 8 fans heading into the weekend. AT&T on Friday said it has begun taking pre-orders on Nokia's giant Lumia 1520 phablet device. It's available to order exclusively at AT&T online or in any of AT&T's retail stores. Pricing is set at $199.99 with a two-year service agreement, or $27 per month with AT&T Next.

The standout feature here is the Lumia 1520's 6-inch display with a Full HD 1080p (1920x1080) resolution. That's bigger than most smartphones and smaller than your typical 7-inch tablet, hence the term "phablet" that's used to describe these devices.

Nokia Lumia 1520

"The Lumia 1520 is the first Windows Phone on the market with a 6-inch 1080p full HD screen," said Jeff Bradley, senior vice president – Devices, AT&T. "The large screen and extra real estate not only accommodate more Live Tiles, but also give you more room to view photos and videos on leading social networking apps or presentations on PowerPoint. The Lumia 1520 is a natural fit for AT&T’s blazing fast 4G LTE network and our industry leading portfolio of Windows devices."

As with many Nokia phones, the built-in camera is another standout feature. In this case, the Lumia 1520 wields a 20MP rear-facing PureView camera with ZEISS optics and optical image stabilization. It's supposed to excel in low-light situations, and if it's particularly dark, you can light up the scene with its dual-LED flash.

Other features include a 2.2GHz quad-core Qualcomm MSM8974 processor with Adreno 330 GPU, 2GB of RAM, 16GB of internal storage flanked by a microSD card slot, 1.2MP front-facing camera, NFC, 802.11ac Wi-Fi, Bluetooth 4.0 LE, 4G LTE, and of course Windows Phone 8 software.

The Nokia Lumia 1520 will be available on November 22. In addition, AT&T says it plans to offer a 32GB capacity version at a later date.
