AMD Demonstrates Optimized Executions of Havok Middleware on AMD platforms

SAN FRANCISCO, Calif. - March 26, 2009 - Advanced Micro Devices, Inc. (NYSE: AMD) and Havok, the premier provider of interactive software for physics simulation and content development, are presenting new, optimized executions of Havok’s physics middleware on AMD platforms at the 2009 Game Developers Conference. The demonstrations include the first OpenCL supported execution of Havok Cloth.

Havok offers a complete modular suite of products that help visual and interactive content developers create more realistic games and cinematic special effects. As the latest software developer to take advantage of ATI Stream technology to leverage multi-core architectures and accelerate execution of highly parallel functions, like real-time cloth simulation, Havok will enable game developers to offer improved performance and interactivity across a broad range of OpenCL capable PCs. AMD has recently introduced optimized platform technologies, such as “Dragon” desktop platform technology, which balance performance between the CPU and GPU with ATI Stream technology to deliver outstanding value.

The really funny thing about this is that Intel owns Havok.

Not a huge surprise considering the battles between intel and nvidia right now. The enemy of my enemy is my friend?

AMD and Intel are competitors. Intel and nvidia are enemies.

to them it'd be like saying "I'm pro NRA but I am against people having guns"

I think its amusing really -- its like a giant soap opera that slowly unfolds before our eyes; pure entertainment!

The real paradox here is that intel owns Havok, but yet Intel just sued AMD over the whole new fab plant and threatend to end the x86 license, but yet Intel Havok is working with AMD on better integrated there x86 platform with Havok ... weird ... but even more weird is that Nehelam(sp?) is supposed to take the performance crown in every area, but again were working with our competitor to make there processors/gpu's, which have a lower price point, on par with us. I think this might be backlash from the whole Nvidia hinting at venturing into CPU land, essentially making them a direct competitor with Intel on every front.

Intel can threaten to revoke AMDs x86 license all they won't but they won't do it.  Those two companies have been cross licensing each others technology for so long now that if Intel pulled AMDs licenses and AMD responded by pulling Intels, both of them could not sell any of their processors in production or planned for production.  It's a threat onlyl.
