Digital Experience: NVIDIA ION, Tegra Netbooks and More

The more well-known industry trade shows, like CES, Computex, and E3, are not necessarily the only venues where technology journalists can get a gander at the latest-and-greatest offerings from a bevy of tech companies. Pepcom is a Florida-based company that holds mini tech trade-shows for the media throughout the year, and its most-recent event was the Digital Experience Rock 'N' Bowl held in New York City on June 24. (Each of Pepcom's events has a theme, which helps create a somewhat of a party atmosphere. Also, one sure way to get journalists to come to an event is to offer free food and drinks.)

We spent some time at the event, speaking with a number of vendors about their latest wares. We couldn't include everyone we spoke with, so we picked just some of the highlights to include in the video above. NVIDIA was demonstrating the capabilities of the upcoming Lenovo S12 netbook, which features a single-core Atom CPU and an NVIDIA ION graphics processor. NVIDIA was also showing off its Tegra computer-on-a-chip, which will be powering the recently-announced Zune HD portable media player. Kyocera showed us the X-tc M2000 mobile phone with a slide-out QWERTY keypad, and the sleek Neo E1100 phone with a hidden display. Nokia quickly walked us through three of its hottest phones, the 7205 Intrigue, the E71x, and the N97. On the networking front, Belkin was displaying its Gigabit Powerline HD Starter Kit--a speedy alternative to wireless networking that is capable of streaming HD video.

The last three vendors we visited with were storage manufacturers. Western Digital had its just-announced My Book World Edition II network-attached-storage (NAS) device, which features two user-serviceable hard drives. Seagate showed us its new BlackArmor NAS 220 device, as well as its BlackArmor WS110 desktop and BlackArmor PS110 external hard drives. Last, but not least, Kingston Technology was displaying its DataTraveler 200 USB flash drive with 128GB of storage, and its SSDNow V Series SSD upgrade kit.
