Western Digital Announces Sleek 3TB My Passport Wireless Pro Hard Drive For On-The-Go Backups
The My Passport Wireless Pro supports 802.11ac Wi-Fi (the previous generation only supported 802.11n) and can automatically create backups from supported cameras using Wi-Fi Direct. The portable drive can also connect to as many as eight devices at time, which should be more than enough for professional photographers. If you absolutely need a wired connection to transfer images (like to or from a laptop), you have access to a dedicated USB 3.0 port. There’s also a built-in SD slot for directly offloading images and a USB 2.0 port for importing media from external USB devices.
Given that this is a portable drive; it has a built-in lithium-ion battery that provides up to 10 hours of battery life. And if you find that your smartphone’s battery is running out of juice, the My Passport Wireless Pro can be used to recharge it. Further expanding its versatility, the My Passport Wireless Pro is compatible with Plex Media Server and Adobe Creative Cloud for mobile photo/video editing. You’ll also be happy to hear that Western Digital has a complementary app for both iOS and Android that allows you to manage the drive. Unfortunately, there’s no app solution for Windows Phone holdouts.
"Portability, reliability, capacity, speed and interoperability are crucial for creative professionals, whose very livelihoods rely on the strength of the technology they use to store their life's work," said Sven Rathjen, VP of Marketing for WD. "We created the WD Pro Series as a comprehensive, feature-rich storage solution designed to fit seamlessly into their workflow, regardless of where the work actually happens, so storage, transfer, back-up, editing and even streaming options are readily available."
The Western Digital My Passport Wireless Pro is available now in 2TB and 3TB capacities priced at $199.99 and $229.99 respectively.
