Sony’s PlayStation 4 Will Mirror Xbox One’s $299 Price For Black Friday

Late last week, we were greeted with the wonderful news that Microsoft is cutting prices by $50 across-the-board for its Xbox One consoles. That means the “lowly” 500GB console bundles will be priced at $299 from November 26th through November 30th.

Sony, which recently trimmed the regular retail price of the PlayStation 4 from $399 to $349, isn’t about to let Microsoft head into the busy holiday shopping season with a significant pricing advantage. As a result, the PlayStation 4 is also getting a matching price cut, dropping temporarily from $349 to $299.

The pricing applies to just a single SKU: the Nathan Drake Collection PS4 Bundle. The bundle includes a 500GB PlayStation 4 console, Uncharted: Drake’s Fortune, Uncharted 2: Among Thieves, and Uncharted 3: Drake’s Deception.

“Thanksgiving is a time for family, a lot of turkey, a ton of football, hours of gaming, and amazing Black Friday offers,” said John Koller, VP of Marketing for the PlayStation Brand. “Well, Thanksgiving is only days away and we know that many of you are thinking of buying a PS4 for yourself or someone special this holiday season.”

The $299 price will be available through Sony’s vast network of retail partners starting on Thursday and will extend through Cyber Monday.

Sony’s PlayStation 4 is by far the best-selling current-generation gaming console, but Microsoft has been putting up a valiant effort in the past few months to at least show some signs of life. The release of Halo 5 on October 15th helped the Xbox One post an 81 percent year-over-year sales gain, and allowed the console to blow past the PlayStation 4 in monthly sales (which is a rare occurrence).

Microsoft is also hoping that its newly released New Xbox One Experience, which brings a new Windows 10-infused user interface and Xbox 360 backwards compatibility, helps to further bolster sales.
