Google Adds Android Pay Support To Chrome Mobile Browser
What if we lived in a world where you never needed to carry around a physical wallet? Google is working on making digital wallets ubiquitous, and the company just recently updated Android Pay to expand this vision.
Android Pay has been around since September 2015 and was one of the key pillars of Android 6.0 Marshmallow. It is available in over a million stores and this past December, Google enabled Android Pay support in various apps including Lyft, OpenTable, Jet.com and JackThreads.
Android Pay has expanded to Singapore and Australia and has increased the number of available banks in the United States and United Kingdom. Chase is now one of the many credit cards that can be accessed through Android Pay in the United States. This includes Chase Visa cards like Freedom, Slate, Sapphire, United Mileage Explorer, and Hyatt Credit Card. Santander and TBS will be soon be available in the United Kingdom.
Android Pay also plays nicely with more apps. They recently integrated Walgreen’s Balance Rewards, Dunkin’ Donuts, and Chili’s loyalty program. They have also partnered with Uber on their Payment Rewards program. This program provides discounts to users. Now until October 15th, Android Pay users can get 50% ten Uber rides without a discount code.
Perhaps one of the most exciting updates is that users can checkout on Chrome through Android Pay on websites such as Groupon.com and 1-800-Flowers.com. This makes mobile checkouts much faster and even more secure.
Android Pay has experienced some interesting updates in this past few months. In March, Google implemented a Hands Free mobile payments system. Users do not need to actually touch their phone to make a payment. They must simply have their phone in their pocket or purse and clearly tell the cashier , “I’ll pay with Google”. The cashier then compares the customer’s face to their profile image and the customer signs their initials to complete the transaction.
