Which Hunt: Consumer Advocacy Group Which? Takes Aim At Windows 10 Performance Issues And Bugs

There’s no question that Windows 10 is a fine operating system for many people. The vast majority of new PCs shipping today come preloaded with Windows 10 and most have simply come to accept the operating system. However, there are those that still think that Microsoft has a lot of work to do to improve Windows 10.

The Electronic Frontier Foundation (EFF) has already taken Microsoft to task for user privacy lapses in Windows 10, and now another consumer advocacy group is giving Microsoft an earful. Which? says that it has received over 1,000 complaints from Windows 10 users that claim that using the operating system has brought nothing but headaches.

Which? provides a laundry list of complaints — many of which we’ve previously seen leveled against the operating system — including files and other data mysteriously vanishing, suddenly inoperable peripherals, software compatibility issues including forcefully uninstalling antivirus software, and “significant PC slowdowns”. That last issue was part of the reason why Microsoft was forced to pay $10,000 to one woman who was upgraded to Windows 10 without her permission.

“With a range of problems caused by the update, many feel that Windows 10 has been foisted on them like an unwelcome house guest,” writes Andrew Laughlin. “Considering it is used on over 90% of PCs worldwide, you’d have thought that Microsoft would take great care when updating Windows.”

"Many people are having issues with Windows 10 and we believe Microsoft should be doing more to fix the problem," added Alex Neill, director of policy at Which? "We rely heavily on our computers to carry out daily activities so, when they stop working, it is frustrating and stressful."

Which? surveyed nearly 5,600 of its British subscribers and 2,500 of them had made the upgrade to Windows 10. Of those, 12 percent ended up reverting back to their previous version of Windows.
