Samsung Galaxy S7 Will Reportedly Signal Return of Greatly Missed microSD Slot
When Samsung introduced its Galaxy S6 and Galaxy S6 Edge devices, it was universally praised for switching from plastic to glass and metal for a more premium feel, though the change in design came at a cost. Certain features were left out, one of the biggest being expandable storage by way of a microSD card slot. Those who found that omission to be a deal killer will be happy to know that Samsung may bring the microSD card slot back with the Galaxy S7.
Bear in mind that nothing is even close to official about this, but according to the rumblings of an Italian-language website and sources it deems as "reliable," Samsung may opt to bring back expandable storage on the Galaxy S7 and Galaxy S7 Edge, as we assume they'll be called.
That's really all that was said about the storage scheme, though there were some other interesting tidbits about Samsung's next flagship phones. We mentioned the S7 and S7 Edge, and barring any surprises, Samsung will again release two versions -- one with a flat 5.2-inch display and another with a curved 5.7-inch display that wraps around the edges.
Also of interest is what hardware Samsung will choose to power the device. Qualcomm recently provided some exciting details about its Snapdragon 820 System-on-Chip, and if it doesn't experience any overheating issues, it's a strong contender for the Galaxy S7 and Galaxy S7 Edge. Samsung might also choose to use its own hardware for another round, such as the Exynos 8890, an octa-core part built on a 14nm manufacturing process.
Samsung is likely to make an announcement at Mobile World Congress in Barcelona next March, so until then, we'll have to settle for more leaks and rumors.
