NVIDIA Tweets Heads-Up For A Live Stream Twitch Event On May 6th As Pascal GeForce Draws Near

Could there be a better way to end the work week than being introduced to a new generation of graphics cards? It appears that's what NVIDIA has in store—the GPU maker sent out a Twitter message inviting the public to tune into a special event that it plans to stream live on Twitch tomorrow.

If you work a typical 9-5 shift, you won't have to worry about missing the event live. It kicks off at 6 PM Pacific (9 PM Eastern), so as long as your commute is under an hour long, you should be home in time to see what NVIDiA has up its sleeve. In the meantime, we have some guesses, all of which start with a "P" and end with an "L."


Yes, we're talking about Pascal, NVIDIA's next generation GPU architecture that it's been teasing for months now. In fact, we received a mysterious suitcase from NVIDIA earlier this week, inside of which was a temporal crystal shard that had us tapping into our inner Nicholas Cage trying to solve a puzzle National Treasure style. Long story short, solving the puzzle unlocked a countdown clock to what's hinted to be the launch of Pascal.

That's also consistent with recent rumors suggesting NVIDIA is getting ready to unveil two Pascal graphics cards, the GeForce GTX 1080 and GeForce GTX 1070. We don't have a ton of details on these cards, and NVIDIA might even use different names, but you can expect the GPU maker to emphasize Pascal's ability to handle VR tasks, 4K resolution gaming, and DirectX 12 support.

It's also been rumored that these cards will wield 8GB of GDDR5 and possibly Micron's GDDR5X memory, which it started sampling to clients two months ago. The beefed up frame buffer would come in handy for VR tasks and high resolution gaming, but again, nothing here is concrete.
