Mortal Kombat X Cancelled For Xbox 360, PS3

There will be no Mortal Kombat X for either the Xbox 360 or PlayStation 3 console, not now, not ever. Unfortunately for fans of the franchise rocking one of those last generation game consoles, porting a version over has proved too difficult a task for the developers, so WB Games pulled the plug.

"After months of development, Warner Bros. Interactive Entertainment has come to the regrettable conclusion that we cannot release Mortal Kombat X for PlayStation 3 and Xbox 360. Please know our teams worked diligently to meet the quality standards set by the current-gen versions of the game. We were not able to get the PS3 and Xbox 360 versions to the quality expected of a Mortal Kombat game and are very sorry for not being able to deliver the products as originally planned," WB Games said in a statement.

Someone at WB Games should relay that message to Walmart and Target, both of which are still accepting pre-orders for the title on Xbox 360 and PS3 consoles. Both also say the game will ship on December 31, 2015, and Target gives you the option of adding a $29 2-year Gaming Service plan with accidental damage protection.

Not that it will come as much consolation, but if you already pre-ordered the game for either console (or place one before the aforementioned retailers pull the listings), you can get a refund, WB Games said.

This hasn't been the greatest of summers for WB Games. In addition to cancelling development of Mortal Kombat X for Xbox 360 and PS3, the developer also had to pull the PC version of Batman: Arkham Knight due to widespread performance problems. Developers are working to fix various issues in the title and recently promised an interim patch in the next few weeks.
