Microsoft Hits ‘Faster Fast Ring’ With Third Windows 10 Insider Preview Release This Week

Microsoft is really on the ball, and we can’t say that we blame them — Windows 10 is going to be the biggest operating system release of the year and there is a lot of pent-up demand for successor to Windows 8.1. Earlier this week, Microsoft released Windows 10 Insider Preview Build 10158, and a day later delivered Build 10159.

Well, Microsoft has gone one step further with its rapid-fire release schedule by sending Build 10162 to the Fast ring, or as Gabe Aul calls it, the “faster Fast ring.”

“We’re focused at this point on bug fixing and final polish, so it’s much easier for each build to get all the way through than earlier in the cycle when we’re adding big new features,” said Aul. “So now we find ourselves in a great situation, with an abundance of build candidates.”

Since we’re well on our way toward the final release of Windows 10, performance and stability is pretty much dialed in at this point. “In fact, our testing and internal telemetry metrics show it has better reliability, performance, battery life, and compatibility than any Windows 10 Insider Preview build so far,” Aul added.

As for folks on the Slow ring, Microsoft has plans to push this build out to you sometime next week as long as there aren’t any show-stopping issues uncovered by Fast ring testers.

Once July 29 rolls around, Windows 10 will be distributed first to Windows Insiders, and then will roll out in waves to others looking to upgrade their existing Windows 7 or Windows 8 systems.
