Lenovo Vibe X Android Smartphone Packs 5-Inch 1080p Display at 440 PPI

There was once a saying that size matters, and another suggesting that beauty is in the eye of the beholder. We suspect that both apply to the blooming world of phablets, which got yet another boost yesterday with the introduction of the Galaxy Note 3. Now, Lenovo is stepping outside of its own comfort zone by introducing a large smartphone as well. The new Vibe X is a 5-inch behemoth designed to compete with other supersized phones, boasting a 6.9mm thick shell and weighing just 0.26 lbs.

The panel itself has a native 1080p resolution (that's 440 pixels per inch), which sits under a scratch-resistant sheet of Corning Gorilla Glass. Unlike most phones, which simply skimp on the front-facing camera, this one has an impressive 5MP sensor on the front, coupled with a 13MP auto-focus rear-facing camera with an LED flash.

A Quad-Core MTK 6589T 1.5GHz processor powers Android 4.2 (Jelly Bean), which is paired with 2GB of RAM and 16GB of internal storage (or 32GB, if you opt for it). It'll ship soon in either black or orange, but pricing has yet to be announced. And yes, if you're curious, Lenovo is introducing even more gear at IFA this week.
