Facebook Vows To Squash Bug Causing Excessive Battery Drain In iOS Devices

You might have noticed that after installing Facebook on your shiny new iPhone (or iPad) battery life took a turn for the worse. Way worse. If so, know that you're not alone. There have been many reports of the Facebook app draining an unusual amount of battery life on iOS devices, and it's something the social network is trying to fix.

In a statement provided to TechCrunch, a Facebook spokesperson said the social network is looking into the issue and hopes to have a solution before too long.

"We have heard reports of some people experiencing battery issues with our iOS app. We're looking into this and hope to have a fix in place soon," the spokesperson said.

There are indeed several reports of the issue, one of which comes from Circa co-founder Matt Galligan. In a blog post. Galligan pointed to Facebook as "the greatest offender of battery drain" on his iPhone 6s Plus device despite having the background app refresh option disabled. Galligan surmises that the app isn't sleeping properly when he hits the home button.

Even though this is a Facebook problem, it doesn't look for the iPhone 6s and iPhone 6s Plus, which have been linked to battery issues with models running a custom A9 processor produced by Samsung. Apple also tapped TSMC to build A9 chips for its handsets, and there are reports that those models have much better battery life.
