ASUS Ships ZenBook NX500 With 3M QDEF Technology For Enhanced Display Color Quality

One of the most highly anticipated notebook launches of the year is finally upon us. ASUS announced today that its ZenBook NX500 is now available for purchase, and you had better be prepared to fork over quite a bit of cash to take one home.

The ZenBook NX500 comes in one configuration at launch, and it’s fully loaded. It features a quad-core Intel i7-4712HQ processor, 16GB of RAM, and a 512GB SSD. But the star of the show is likely to be the 15.6”, 4K (3840 x 2160) display that is covered by 3M’s Quantum Dot Enhancement Film — the film helps the ZenBook NX500 render “100 percent of the sRGB gamut and 96 percent of the AdobeRGB gamut” according to recent tests. The ZenBook NX500 is the very first notebook to take advantage of this technology.

“The enhanced color capabilities will enable a new era in creative content as artists and designers discover the full potential of sophisticated design and editing programs on-the-go,” said Erik Jostes, 3M LCD Business Director.

Powering that display is NVIDIA’s GeForce GTX 850M graphics processor, which itself features 2GB of GDDR5 RAM. Within the all-aluminum unibody chassis, you’ll find additional niceties including 802.11ac, Bluetooth 4.0, three USB 3.0 ports, HDMI, mini DisplayPort, an SD reader, and SonicMaster Premium speakers.

The 5-pound, 19mm thick ZenBook NX500 is priced at $2,699 and will be available from Amazon.com (watch this space).
