Minecraft Headed to PlayStation 3 on December 18
Here's a PSA to PlayStation 3 parents -- keep your gamer children hydrated and fed, and force them to get a bit of exercise and sleep every once in awhile. This will be super important advice come December 18 (this Wednesday) because that's when the highly addictive indie building game known as Minecraft will land on the PS3.
Owen Hill from Mojang made the announcement on Sony's PlayStation Europe blog, adding that over 30 million copies of Minecraft have been sold to date. Expect that number to skyrocket once the PS3 Edition arrives, followed by Minecraft: PlayStation 4 Edition and Minecraft: PlayStation Vita Edition, both of which are currently being developed but are not yet scheduled for release.
"Minecraft is a game about breaking and placing blocks. At first, you’ll probably build simple structures to protect against nocturnal monsters. Later on, you might work with your friends to create wonderful, imaginative things," Owen explains. "It can also be about adventuring or watching the sun rise over a blocky ocean. It’s pretty. Brave players battle terrible things in The Nether – which is more scary that pretty. You can also visit a land of mushrooms if that sounds more like your cup of tea."
The PS3 edition will feature everything found in the other console versions. Minecraft players will also be able to download skins and texture packs from the PlayStation Store "soon after release," Owen says. Finally, Owen says it hasn't been decided yet whether or not remote play compatibility with PS4 and Vita owners will be included
