Inexpensive Wikipad Gaming Tablet Debuts June 11th, Challenges Razer Edge and NVIDIA Project SHIELD
The Razer Edge and NVIDIA’s Project SHIELD aren’t the only handheld gaming tablets in the game; the Wikipad is making a push, and the $249 tablet will officially launch on June 11th.
The Wikipad adopts the same design concept as the Razer Edge, which is a tablet that snaps into a handheld controller that converts the whole thing into a portable console. The Wikipad is a 7-inch device (smaller than the 10-inch Razer Edge) and runs a quad core NVIDIA Tegra 3 SoC with 16GB of onboard storage (with a 32GB micro SD slot) and micro USB, HDMI out, a 2MP front camera, GPS, an accelerometer, and a gyroscope.
Android 4.1 Jelly Bean is on board, and the 16:10 display supports 5-point multitouch. And of course, there’s the gamepad controller which includes two analog joysticks, a D-pad, four buttons, right and left bumpers, and right and left triggers. You can acquire games from Google Play, Sony, and NVIDIA’s TegraZone.
The specifications are solid if not mind-blowing, but the $249 price tag is incredible. We’ll look forward to seeing if this thing can hack it for real.
