There are a slew of reasons fans of fighting games should look forward to EVO each year, but this year, there are two special ones. For starters, this year's event marks the 20th of its kind, and it also marks the first time Street Fighter V is featured at the event. As the SF series has been such a hallmark of EVO over the years, it's easy to understand why a brand-new release in the franchise creates such a fevered buzz. The fact that Street Fighter V was a cause of a lot of excitement at EVO is interesting simply thanks to the fact that the game didn't have the smoothest launch. Some would argue... Read more...
It's been quite the two months for the No Man's Sky developer team. A couple of months ago, we reported that the game would be suffering yet another delay; news that didn't sit well with everyone who has been waiting 'forever' for the game. Weeks later, Hello Games settled an absurd dispute with Sky TV, allowing the company to continue using the No Man's Sky name it has promoted for the past five years. Now comes some great news: No Man's Sky has reached gold status, and as you might be able to tell from the shot above, the development team could not be happier. After all it's been through, that... It's always unfortunate to see a really hyped game experience major issues upon its release. It sucks not just for those who purchased the game, but for the developers who put thousands of development hours into it. Unfortunately, this is the reality that Evolve developer Turtle Rock Studios experienced first-hand last year. While Evolve was well-received overall, it had a couple of niggles that prevented long-term support. Some didn't care much for the map design, and many didn't like the company's DLC plans. With all issues combined, Evolve didn't experience the kind of success that the industry... Read more...
Sony is giving gamers the heads up that its discontinuing its Ustream service for the PlayStation 4 effective August 1, 2016. Once that date arrives, PS4 gamers will no longer be able to broadcast their gameplay to Ustream, nor will they be able to view Ustream broadcasts from the "Live from PlayStation" portal on the PS4 console or from the PlayStation App and PlayStation Vita. It's not clear what prompted Sony's decision to pull the plug on Ustream, especially since it was one of the promoted features leading up to the console's launch in November 2013. If we had to guess, it's because other broadcasting... Read more...
It's been a pretty interesting year for Destiny so far, for better or for worse. The year kicked off in a rather interesting way when Bungie's president Harold Ryan stepped down, being replaced by Pete Parsons, the company's former COO. The move caused a bit of concern among those in the Destiny community, but when the mammoth April update got pushed out, with its revamped Prison of Elders mode, increased Light Level, and the introduction of new items, it helped smooth over some concerns and gave the impression that things would be alright. Thankfully, nothing has changed since then. The future... Read more...
Sony recently confirmed that it's working on a faster version of its PlayStation 4 console. The new build, codenamed PS4 Neo, will feature more powerful hardware inside that's capable of playing back 4K Ultra HD video and gaming at a 4K resolution, but if you're worried about cutting short the lifecycle of the PS4, Sony President Shuhei Yoshida says that won't be the case.Yoshida spoke about the PS4 Neo and gaming in general at E3. Andrew House from German-language website Gameswelt interviewed Yoshida and asked him point blank if the regular console cycles of 5-6 years is coming to an end in favor... Read more...
If your brain hasn't already shut down from the sheer amount of details to come out of this year's E3, then here's something else to shove down your gullet: a new Call of Duty: Infinite Warfare trailer. Let's state the obvious: Call of Duty trailers are never received well by those who love to troll. Even those who wouldn't have played the game anyway love to jump in and toss in their ridicule. It's a bit odd, but it is what it is. The backlash led the original trailer release to score a staggering 2.8 million dislikes at YouTube, versus its 460 thousand likes. That caused Activision's CEO to come... Read more...
Spider-Man is bringing his brand of Marvel-ous justice to the PlayStation 4 console under the guidance of Insomniac, the same development studio that brought to life Spyro, Ratchet & Clank, and Sunset Overdrive. This will be the first IP Insomniac has worked on in its 22-year history that didn't originate in-house. However, the team is no less stoked to work on the project. "From a personal and professional standpoint, this is a dream come true. I’ve been an avid Marvel fan all my life. When I first learned Insomniac was approached by our long-time friends and collaborators at Sony Interactive... Read more...
When Sony first announced its PlayStation VR headset a few months ago, the company said it would ship in the United States sometime in October with a price tag of $399. Now we have an exact release date to share—Sony updated the status of its PlayStation VR during its E3 press conference, saying it will launch to retail on October 13, 2016.Other details remain the same, including the price. That's not a bad deal compared to the Oculus Rift and HTC Vive, which sell for $599 and $799, respectively, and require a relatively high powered PC with at least a GeForce GTX 970 graphics card. However, the... Read more...
Exactly one month ago today, Dice took the veil off of the next major Battlefield title. The oddly-named Battlefield 1 will take a break from more futuristic combat to bring us way back to the World War I era. While World War II-styled games used to be poked fun at due to the sheer amount available, it seems now is the right time to give ourselves a new-age WW1 experience. To say that the hype surrounding this game is huge would be an understatement. While we've learned the hard lesson of not putting our complete faith into launch trailers, Battlefield 1's was so good that even if it doesn't live... Read more...
There are very few game titles on the horizon that are as hyped-up as No Man's Sky, an adventure survival game that takes place in a beautiful procedurally-generated world. While the game is going to be available on the PC (and will support NVIDIA Ansel, no less), the bulk of the game's hype is tied to the PlayStation community. To say that people have been excited for this game for a while would be an understatement. We do mean understatement. The NMS community is clearly passionate about the game, and so when a delay is even suggested, sorrow quickly ensues. For one game writer, merely being... Read more...

At the risk of not wanting to count chickens before they hatch, it's pretty hard to not be excited for AMD right now. For so many years, the company has struggled to increase its share value due to a lack of truly competitive products. However, this week, we've heard of two examples of how AMD could turn itself around, and the benefits are already materializing. A couple of days ago, we reported that AMD struck a deal to license its processor and SoC technologies so that Tianjin Haiguang Advanced Technology Investment Co., can create its own processors based on AMD's technologies. The deal is reported... Read more...
