Boss Key Productions has posted its first trailer of LawBreakers (formerly Project Bluestreak), a futuristic title that's set to release on multiple platforms in 2016. The trailer shows off some of the characters and classes that you'll have access to on both sides of the law -- yes, you'll have to decide whether you're fighting for the law or the lawbreakers. A little background is in order. The game's setting is Earth, though not as you know it now. This is a future version of Earth where gravity is busted. The government, in its infinite wisdom, screwed up some testing on the moon and managed... Read more...
Microsoft has a lot of exciting things in store for its Xbox One console, and if you want an early taste of what the Redmond giant is cooking up, you need only join the Xbox One Preview program. Sounds easy enough, right? Unfortunately it's an invite-only affair, and it looks like Microsoft is cutting back the number of invites it sends out.As you might imagine, more than just a handful of Xbox One owners are interested in getting an early look at upcoming features. Microsoft says it's seen a "tremendous response" from its fans and that the program "has reached a near-capacity level," which in... Read more...
In an attempt to create a "leaner and more agile" company, Angry Birds developer Rovio is planning to fling pink slips at up to 260 employees, the Finnish firm announced on Wednesday. The planned reduction represents more than a third of Rovio's staff and comes hot the heels of Angry Birds 2, which was downloaded nearly 50 million times in its first month of release. Unfortunately for Rovio and its employees, downloads alone don't generate revenue, at least for freemium titles. It's the in-app purchases that count, and while Rovio didn't disclose how much it's collected from its newest Angry Birds... Read more...
Few would disagree that YouTube dominates the online streaming video scene, and with that kind of foundation in place, Google sees an opportunity to expand into gaming. No, not as a game developer, but as an alternative to Twitch, the live streaming video game company that it tried to acquire last year before Amazon swooped in with a $970 million bid. Called YouTube Gaming, the new venture is set to launch later today, according to Variety. If previous information holds true, it will consist of more than 25,000 game pages and channels at launch in the U.S. and U.K. These pages and channels will... Read more...
Electronic Arts is getting ready to release it's newest Madden game, Madden NFL 2016, to various game consoles tomorrow (August 25, 2016), though if you're anxious to hit the gridiron, you can score a copy for free for the Xbox One today, a day early. All you have to do is enter a promo code in Uber and cross your fingers. You're not guaranteed to get a free copy, and considering that demand will be "VERY HIGH" with limited availability, it amounts to a Hail Mary pass. Nevertheless, free copies are out there for the taking, and I've already seen one of my Facebook contacts boast about scoring one... Read more...
You have our utmost respect if you've ever run into the "Map 256 Glitch" in Pac-Man. The show stopping bug thwarted even the best Pac-Man players with an impossible to beat level, and it's also the theme of Bandai Namco's newest Pac-Man title -- yes, another Pac-Man game! -- Pac-Man 256 available for iOS, Android, and Amazon devices. Let's back up a moment. Also known as the split-screen level or kill screen, the Map 256 Glitch occurred when Pac-Man players made it to level 256. At issue is the level counter being stored as an 8-bit integer, so it could only store 256 values (0-255), with the highest... Read more...
Sony continually patches its PlayStation 4 console, and if you want to help test future firmware updates, you now can. Ahead of its next major system software update, Sony has opened up a beta program and is inviting PS4 owners to sign up for sneak peeks at what's in the pipeline, and also to provide feedback on things that need improvement. A PS4 console is required (no surprise there), and you'll also need an Internet connection and a master account. Sub-accounts are not allowed to participate in the program. Sony also says to make sure you're a member of its PlayStation forums so that you can... Read more...
The cost of entry to own a modern generation DS console has been lowered to a Benjamin. Actually, just shy of a Benny -- Nintendo dropped the price of its 2DS handheld to $99.99, down from its previous suggested retail price of $129.99. And in case you're wondering, yes, it still comes bundled with Mario Kart 7 (in digital form). "At a suggested retail price of $99.99, Nintendo 2DS is an even more attractive introductory option for first-time gamers," said Scott Moffitt, Nintendo of America’s Executive Vice President of Sales & Marketing. "The new lower-priced hardware combined with the strong... Read more...

If you're wondering why all your Android device-toting buddies are no longer answering your messages, there's a reasonable explanation. They've all been abducted by aliens! We don't know if Microsoft will catch up and surpass Sony in console sales, but if not, it won't be for a lack of trying. Microsoft has been doing a bang up job with its Xbox One console, both on the software side and in terms of hardware upgrades and bundles. One of the latest -- and arguably the coolest -- is the Xbox One Halo 5 Guardians Limited Collector's Edition - Pink Mist Edition. It's also the longest name of any Xbox One bundle that we're aware of, which is fitting, because it boasts one of the most robust collections of add-ons and extras. Included inside are all the goodies you get... Read more...
If you thought the Angry Birds franchise had soared as high as it could possibly go and there would be limited interest in yet another release, you thought wrong. Angry Birds 2, the first official sequel to the original Angry Birds title released in 2009, notched 1 million downloads in just 12 hours, and 10 million downloads in three days. That's a far cry from the 920 million downloads the original Angry Birds has tallied to date, though it represents another fast start for yet another Angry Birds title, of which there have been several. While Angry Birds 2 is an official sequel to the original,... Read more...
Autodesk is no stranger to 3D animation and professional software. The company offers several design tools for developers, including Maya, 3ds Max, Fusion 360, AutoCAD, Civil 3D, and the list goes on, though up until now, one thing you wouldn't find in Autodesk's portfolio is a game engine. That changes today. Announced at the Game Developers Conference (GDC) Europe 2015, Stingray is Autodesk's entry into the game engine business. It's built on the data driven architecture of the Bitsquid engine, which Autodesk scooped up in 2014, and supports a bunch of industry standard game development workflows.... Read more...
