Microsoft Releases Windows 8.1 Patch to Un-Bork Your Mouse, Reduce Lag for Gamers

If you've held off on updating your operating system to Windows 8.1 (free for Windows 8 users) because of reports of mouse problems following the upgrade (specifically, issues with lag, stutter, and freezing), you'll be happy to know that Microsoft has issued a fix, just as the Redmond company promised it would.

Following a series of complaints on the Internet, Microsoft acknowledged last week that the Windows 8.1 update could bork (see definition No.1) your mouse in certain games and situations. The culprit, as it turns out, is related to changes Windows 8.1 makes to mouse input processing for low latency interaction scenarios, Microsoft says.
