Toshiba’s Feature Packed 12-Inch Satellite Radius Convertible Sports 4K Display And Windows Hello Camera
Windows 10 may be a free upgrade for many of us, but Microsoft’s newest operating system still has the potential to drive PC sales. One reason some customers may decide to pick up a new system is Windows Hello, the feature that recognizes your face when you log in. Toshiba is banking on that feature being a draw for its new Satellite Radius 12 two-in-one, which is one of the smallest laptops to sport both the necessary Windows Hello hardware and a 4K display.
The key to Windows Hello is the camera, which makes use of depth-sensing technology to provide Windows Hello with the image of your face that it needs. Most of today’s cameras are not up to the task, so you’ll need a system with an Intel RealSense 3D camera (or similar) that can handle face recognition. Adding Windows Hello support to the tiny Satellite Radius 12 is a nice touch.
That said, the 12.5-inch display may end up being more important to the Radius 12’s success than face recognition. With a resolution of 3640 x 2160, it’s a full 4K display, which should make for some great movie watching when you’re away from home. Toshiba says its display is Technicolor certified to ensure color accuracy.
The display has 360-degree hinges so you can put the laptop in various positions, including tablet. And it will feature Gorilla Glass NBT, which is particularly scratch resistant.
Toshiba has said that it plans to offer the Satellite Radius 12 with 6th Gen Intel Core processors. It will be fairly slim at 0.6-inches high, and will weigh about 2.9 pounds.
