Samsung Exec Expects Galaxy S6 And S6 Edge Sales To Crest 70 Million Units

There's been a lot of chatter and speculation as to how many Galaxy S6 and Galaxy S6 Edge devices Samsung has racked up in pre-orders and how many combined units it will ship by the end of the year. However, they've mostly come from outside sources, like market analysts. At least until know -- Samsung has reportedly spoken up on its sales expectations.

According to a report in The Korea Times, Samsung believes that combined Galaxy S6 and Galaxy S6 Edge sales will reach "70 million plus" by the end of the year. Based on what we know to date, like Samsung have a tough time supplying enough flagship phones to keep up with demand, that 70 million figure really isn't far fetched.

"The Galaxy S6 and S6 Edge are drawing positive responses. I have no doubt that they will be the biggest sellers in the Galaxy series ever," a Samsung executive reportedly said.

Samsung's newest devices went on sale on April 10. Prior to that, there were reports that the new phones had already amassed 20 million pre-orders, a record high for the South Korean handset maker. Also, a much needed one -- as one Samsung executive noted, "We are back on track."

The company needed a turnaround like this. Customers had grown tired of the same basic design of previous Galaxy devices, and as a result, Samsung was unable to sell off its entire stock of Galaxy S5 device. It also saw profits moving in the wrong direction.

Going forward, the new challenge will be to keep the momentum going.
