Samsung Embraces Selfie Love With Galaxy J5, J7 Smartphones
It used to be that smartphone makers tried to outdo one another with superior rear-facing cameras. It was a point of focus in commercials, and with each new generation of handsets, there was talk of smartphone cameras making point-n-shoots obsolete. Funny how trends change, as now the popular thing is to improve the front-facing camera on smartphones for taking selfies. If you don't believe it, then take a look at Samsung's new Galaxy J3 and J5 phones.
The big deal with these phones is that they boast 5-megapixel front-facing shooters with LED flash. These are wide angle lenses the new Galaxy devices use for taking selfies, capturing 85 degrees for a solo selfie or extended to 120 degrees for that group shot. There's also a self-time mode.
That's not to say Samsung completely ignored the rear-facing camera. Both handsets feature a 13-megapixel rear camera with an f/1.9 aperture that Samsung says lets in sufficient light for taking photos in less than ideal circumstances.
Cameras aside, the Galaxy J5 has a 5-inch 720p (1280x720) TFT display powered by a 1.2GHz quad-core Qualcomm Snapdragon 410 processor and 1.5GB of RAM. It also features 16GB of internal storage, microSD card slot, dual SIM slots, 2,600 mAh battery, and Android 5.1 Lollipop.
The Galaxy J7 kicks things up a notch with a 5.5-inch 720p TFT display, 64-bit octa-core Snapdragon 615 SoC, and 3,000 mAh battery.
Pricing for the Galaxy J5 and J7 is set at 1,398 CNY (around $225 in U.S. currency) and 1,798 CNY (around $289), respectively. No word on whether or not Samsung intends to ship these handsets outside of China.
