Nintendo Readies Smaller 'New Nintendo 3DS' For U.S. Debut
Nintendo began selling its super sized (and confusingly named) "New Nintendo 3DS XL" handheld console in the U.S. market back in February of this year for $200, and later this month, the regular version will available too. Set for a September 25 release, the more compact version will debut at $220 as part of a special bundle.
The bundle will include the handheld console itself (obviously) plus the upcoming Animal Crossing: Happy Home Designer game (download version, not a physical copy), two themed cover plates, and a single Amiibo card. Never heard of an Amiibo card? They have the same functionality as an Amiibo figure (unlocks in-game content), but come in card form.
If you prefer the larger XL model, Nintendo is also getting ready to release a Hyrule Edition New Edition 3DS XL system that will be available on October 30, 2015, just three days before the launch of The Legend of Zelda: Tri Force Heroes (not included). The Hyrule Edition New Edition 3DS XL will sell for $200 MSRP and is a GameStop exclusive.
"More than 15 million systems in the Nintendo 3DS family have been sold in the U.S. alone," said Scott Moffitt, Nintendo of America’s Executive Vice President of Sales & Marketing. "These new models offer additional fun ways to experience some of the great upcoming Nintendo 3DS games launching in the next few months."
Finally, Nintendo also said it's planning to release three new WiiRemote Plus controllers themed after Bowser, Toad, and Yoshi. GameStop gets exclusive dibs on these too and will sell them for $40 MSRP.
