Microsoft claims that the Edge browser is faster, more energy efficient than its competitors, and also consistently offers 1080p streaming on Netflix. Edge, nevertheless, has had trouble gathering converts. Google Chrome is by far still currently the world's most popular desktop web browser.
Bing Rewards, which paid people for using Bing as their search engine, has been rebranded as “Microsoft Rewards”. Customers can now earn rewards by using Bing, Edge, and making purchases through the Microsoft of Windows store. Users can earn points for up to thirty hours of web browsing per month. Bing must be set as the default search engine if customers use Edge. Users must be signed in with the same account associated with their Microsoft Rewards membership in order to earn points. Microsoft will also track mouse movements and other data to make sure users are not trying to cheat the system.
There will also be two tiers in Microsoft Rewards. Tier 2 users can earn more points on Bing, save up to 10% on rewards from Microsoft brand, and will also receive “exclusive offers”. User must at least 500 points or more points a month in order to maintain their Tier 2 status. Points can then be traded in for vouchers or credit to places such as Starbucks or Amazon.
Bing Rewards will automatically convert to Microsoft Rewards points. One Bing Rewards credit is worth ten Microsoft Rewards points. Earnings for Bing searches and redemptions will also be adjusted to reflect the conversion.
Microsoft Rewards will roll out in the next few weeks. It will only be available in the United States.
