Google Serves Final Dev Preview For Tasty Android 7.0 Nougat
Google is just about finished preparing Nougat for insatiable Android uses who've had their fill of Marshmallow, Lollipop, and every other flavor of the world's most popular mobile operating system. In the meantime, those who want to catch a sneak peek of what Android 7.0 will bring to the table can download the final developer preview now.
It's the fifth developer preview since Google began working on Android 7.0 and the last milestone in the series before Nougat is thrust onto devices later this summer. Adding to the previous developer preview, which included the final APIs for Android 7.0, this latest release gives developers the near-final system updates for all supported preview devices.
In addition to system images for Nexus and other preview devices, Google baked in an emulator that developers can use for final testing apps to make sure they're ready for release. It also includes the final N APIs, system behaviors, and UI, along with all the newest bug fixes and optimizations across the system and in pre-installed apps.
"Working with this latest developer [review, you should make sure your app handles all of the system behavior changes in Android N, like Doze on the Go, background optimizations, screen zoom, permissions changes, and more. Plus, you can take advantage of new developer features in Android N such as Multi-window support, Direct Reply and other notifications enhancements, Direct boot, new emojis and more," Google says.
Developers and users who are already enrolled in the Android Beta program will be the newest developer preview update right away without taking any action. Those who aren't enrolled but still want to get the update are encouraged to sign up at android.com/beta. Otherwise it's possible to download and manually flash the update, which is available for Nexus 6, Nexus 5X, Nexus 6P, Nexus 9, and Pixel C devices, along with General Mobile 4G (Android One) devices.
