Complete Google’s Security Checkup And Get 2GB of Free Drive Storage

We all love freebies around here, especially when you barely have to lift a finger to get said freebie. Such is the case today thanks to a promotion that Google is running in honor of Safer Internet Day 2016. All you have to do is login to your Google account and go through the Security Checkup interview process, after which you’ll be given an extra 2GB of Drive cloud storage.

As was the case last year around this time, the Security Checkup will ask you to perform a variety of checks to ensure that your account is protected from malicious activity. First, you’ll be required to set a recovery phone number and email address if you’re ever accidentally locked out of your account. Next, you’ll be able to see a list of all devices connected to your Google account — that way you can spot if anything looks wonky and resolve the problem immediately.

Then you can check out account permissions to see what apps have access to your Google account followed by a prompt to check your app passwords. Finally, you’ll have to verity your 2-step Verification settings.

The whole process takes less than a minute; perhaps two tops if you’re a stickler for perusing over each and every setting provided (or if you have to make any changes).

The 2GB of extra storage is permanent, so you don’t have to worry about Google reneging on its promises (**cough** Microsoft OneDrive). In addition, if you participated in the promotion last year, you still qualify to get an extra 2GB.
