AMD Radeon R9 380X Reportedly Arrives November 15th With $249 Price Tag
Do you plan on building a new gaming PC this holiday season? If so, you may want to hold off on picking up a graphics card until you see how AMD's Radeon R9 380X performs. You won't have to wait long -- it's rumored that the mid-range graphics card will launch on November 15, 2015, or just over a week from now.
There's a spattering of reports about the 380X on the web and all seem to point to the same source, a Korean-language website called Hardware Battle. According to the site, the card will feature a 28nm Antigua XT GPU with 2,048 Stream Processors and 4GB of GDDR5 memory pushing data through a 256-bit bus.
Other rumored specs include 128 Texture Mapping Units (TMUs) and 32 Render Out Units (ROPs). The GPU will come clocked at 1,000MHz to 1,100MHz, while the memory will run at 1,275MHz to 1,500MHz (5,500MHz to 6,000MHz effective).
Crunching the numbers, those specs put the compute power at around 4.10 TFLOPS and memory bandwidth at 176GB/s to 192GB/s. To put those metrics into perspective (and bear in mind that none of those specs are confirmed), the Radeon R9 380 with 2GB of GDDR5 memory offers 3.48 TFLOPS of compute power and 176GB/s of bandwidth.
